Ways To Celebrate Responsible Dog Ownership Day With Fido
September 15, 2021
Responsible Dog Ownership Day is September 18th. Fido is a wonderful pet, but he needs quite a bit of care. While doling out treats and belly rubs are an important part of any good dog care regimen, being a good dog owner goes much further. A Raleigh, NC vet lists some things you can do to celebrate this ‘pawsipicious’ occasion below.
Training can make a huge difference in not only Fido’s behavior, but also your relationship with him. If your pooch hasn’t mastered simple commands, such as Sit, Stay, and Come, start working with him. Even just a few minutes a day can make a huge difference!
It’s much easier—not to mention cheaper–to prevent illnesses and parasitic infections than it is to treat them. If Fido is behind on exams, vaccines, or parasite control, make an appointment.
Make sure that your home is safe for your furry friend! If you have a yard, make sure that your fencing is secure, and that your gate latches well. Inside the house, you’ll want to address things like toxic plants, small or sharp objects, and chemicals or other poisons.
Keeping your faithful pet comfortable is also very important. Things like good beds and proper grooming will go a long way here. Temperature is another concern. Fido should always have access to fresh water, shade, and a clean, comfortable shelter.
Fido may not be happy about this one, but he does need regular grooming. Each pooch is different: some need monthly baths, while others only need occasional ones. Nail trims are important, too!
Man’s Best Friend is quite smart, and he will get restless and uneasy with nothing to do but stare at the walls. Offer Fido lots of toys, and take time to play with him. Regular walks are also important, as they’ll both help keep your pup fit and offer him mental stimulation.
Dogs can form very strong and special bonds with their humans. However, like any relationship, that friendship needs to be nurtured. Pay lots of attention to your furry bff, and spend time with him every day. Fido’s tail wags and affectionate happy dances are some of the best things in life in our book!
