Cinco De Meow
May 2, 2022
There’s a pretty cute cat holiday coming up on May 5th. Cinco de Meow is the kitty version of the increasingly-popular Cinco de Mayo, which celebrates and commemorates Mexico’s win against French forces at the Battle of Puebla in 1862. As it turns out, our feline friends are more than happy to help us celebrate! Read on as a local Raleigh, NC vet lists some cute ways to honor this ‘pawesome’ occasion.

Treats

Mexican food is a no-brainer for many folks on Cinco de Mayo. Don’t share your dinner with Fluffy! Many of the night’s popular dishes will contain things like garlic and onions, which are not safe for cats. Avocado is also unsafe, as are dairy products, pitted fruits, alcohol, and meat on the bone. What can you give your feline buddy? Some plain, cooked meat, fish, or chicken will do nicely.

Photo Shoot

Our furry pals take great pictures. Snap some themed photos of Fluffy! You can go all-out with props, or keep it simple and use editing software to add sombreros or other accessories.

Trappings

You don’t need an excuse to play with Fluffy, or get her new toys. That said, you may want to hit the pet store anyway. Pet product companies are getting on board with Cinco de Meow. You can now find all sorts of cute themed kitty toys, such as catnip tacos, cactuses, or margaritas.

Purrito

Many cats love to snuggle up in blankets. Make Fluffy a little kitty tunnel by rolling a blanket into a log shape. Your furry buddy will probably snuggle up in it and stick her head out through the other side. That would offer you the purrfect chance for a purrito picture! Just make sure she can’t get stuck.

Entertainment

When you’re ready to wind down, pick a movie that fits the Cinco de Mayo/Cinco de Meow theme. Fluffy makes a great lap warmer for movie nights!

Support The Cause

Like many kitty holidays—and our feline friends themselves—Cinco de Meow is fun and a bit silly. However, there’s also a more serious aspect to the holiday, which is about raising awareness of adoptable kitties in shelters. That’s definitely something we are on board with! Help spread the word about adoption events, especially those that are happening locally. As your local Raleigh, NC animal clinic, we’re dedicated to offering great veterinary care! Call us anytime!
