Take Your Dog To Work Day is coming up June 25th. Many companies, including food giant Nestle, are becoming pet friendly. Of course, with so many people working from home last year, lots of pets got used to spending all day with their humans. If your job allows dogs, or makes an exception for this ‘pawesome’ pet holiday, you may be toying with the idea of bringing your canine companion in with you. But is that really a good idea? Fido’s Application
Fido is naturally a great fit for some workplaces. Many small, privately-owned shops and offices have pups on site. Outdoor jobs, such as farm work, can also be a great fit for dogs. Hopefully this goes without saying, but don’t bring your pooch in with you without getting permission from your boss. As a matter of courtesy, you should also check with your coworkers. If any of them have allergies or are scared of dogs, leave your furry pal at home.
The Right Fit
You should only consider bringing your pup in if Fido is calm, friendly, well-trained, and properly socialized. He should also be fixed, microchipped, and current on his vaccines and parasite control.
Office Hours
You want Fido to put his best paw forward. Before taking your pooch to work with you, brush him thoroughly and give him a bath. Proper attire is also important. Try putting a little tie or bandana on him.
Food
Does your furry buddy have a begging habit? Keep him close to you, especially if people eat at their desks. Stan in accounting may not appreciate Fido staring at his sandwich.
Socialization
If your canine friend spent more time indoors at home last year than usual, he may need to reacclimate to being out in the world. Take him to some parks, or host a puppy party, and see how he does. If he seems anxious or uneasy about interacting with a lot of people, work on socialization before bringing him in.
Breaks
