Thanksgiving is coming up quick. Even in a turbulent year like this one, it’s important to remember to be thankful for the good things in our lives. Dogs certainly fit that description. It’s probably safe to say that if your pet could list the things he’s appreciative of, bacon, car rides, belly rubs, and trips to the dog park would all rank pretty high. However, there are also quite a few things Fido may not be quite as grateful for as he should. A local Raleigh, NC vet lists some of them below.

Fences

Our four-legged buddies are very active and curious, and they love to explore new places. Given the chance, Fido would likely be all over the place, introducing himself to the other pups in the neighborhood and sniffing everyone’s yards. Needless to say, that could be quite dangerous!

Baths

Baths are definitely not very high on the list of Fido’s favorite things. In fact, some of our canine patients run and hide when they hear the dreaded B-word! Regardless of what your furry pal thinks about his beauty sessions, he will be both healthier and more comfortable (not to mention less stinky) with a soft, clean coat.

Pills

Have you ever had to give Fido medication? While some pups are easily fooled by putting pills in things like cheese, meat, or pill pockets, others just aren’t having it. Man’s Best Friend just doesn’t know that sometimes those medications are crucial to his health.

Leashes

Given the option, our canine pals would probably do away with leashes completely. However, leashes do help keep Fido safe, and stop him from approaching dangerous areas.

Spay/Neuter Surgery

We can’t really blame Fido for this one. These surgeries are very safe and routine, but they aren’t much fun for dogs. That said, your furry buddy will be much happier, healthier, and calmer with those reproductive urges repressed.

Training

Dogs are very smart, and they also really try to please humans. However, your pooch may give you a reproachful look if you tell him to Lay Down while you’re eating dinner. Training actually helps you and your cute pet build a better, stronger relationship. It also helps keep Fido out of trouble!

Happy Thanksgiving! Please reach out if ever we can be of assistance. As your Raleigh, NC veterinary clinic, we’re here to help!
